The Work Before Us
I am experienced and ready to work. During COVID, our graduation rate stayed consistent, and we kept schools open on par with other districts.
As the only “Renewal School District” in the state, we have flexibility that other districts do not. We will make necessary changes to benefit our students and to spend taxpayers’ dollars on the most efficient ways to improve education.
The new Knox-8 School project, on funding pause during Covid, is back on track.
We are excited to work with our new local superintendent, who personally knows the needs of our schools and staff.
My Focus
Hiring, to ensure quality teachers.
Working tirelessly to increase teacher pay.
Improving reading and math test scores.
Finding opportunities for students outside traditional school, such as virtual education and hands-on internships
Continuing our 2027 strategic plan, which includes every graduate employed, enlisted, or enrolled.
“I want to see our area grow. One of our biggest challenges as a district is the perceived negativity of our schools. As the father of five kids, I have had lots of positive experiences with our schools. I am working to change the negative perception of local public schools.”
School Board members must live in the District that they serve; however, the non-partisan School Board election is county-wide, with voters voting for one candidate in each of the 5 districts.

- Completing his first 4-year term on the school board; board chair, 2020-2021.
- Spencer Board of Aldermen, 7 years.
- Local building contractor for 18 years and owner of Subway restaurants in Spencer, Granite Quarry, and Cleveland, 15 years.
- Former Executive Pastor, Life Church, Salisbury, 5 years.
- Attended Hurley Elementary, West Rowan Middle, and West Rowan High School.
- Graduate of Elon University, degree in chemistry.
- He and his wife, Cybil, a graduate of East Rowan High School, are parents of 5 school-aged children who attend North High, Middle and Elementary schools.
- Active in Booster Club and PTAs in North Rowan schools and frequent school volunteer.
- Volunteer, Communities in Schools and Rowan Helping Ministries.
- He and his wife are former licensed foster parents.
- Coach, youth soccer and basketball.
- Former employee, Campus Outreach, North Carolina, a global network of ministries working through local churches on university campuses to reach and develop the next generation of Christ-centered leaders.
- Proud resident of 8 Pickett Ave., Spencer.
- Frequent runner, local 5-K races.
